Peer Coaching at UCCS

Coaching helps students to build confidence to achieve their academic and personal goals by providing guidance, connection to resources, and inspiring motivation. This is accomplished by getting to know each student on a one-on-one basis, understanding their goals, creating a plan to reach those goals, assisting with skill development where needed, and providing check-ins to ensure students are progressing toward their goals.

Individualized Support

Coaches meet with students individually to get to know them and their story. They work to understand why a student chose UCCS and what they hope to gain from their experiences at UCCS. Coaches also encourage students to identify and build their networks of support and community to establish a place of belonging.

Academic Support

Students who work with coaches are helped to consider and make plans for their academic and professional goals. In the goal-setting process, coaches support students in determining what they hope to gain from their academic experience, what resources will be useful for them along the way, and how they may improve their academic skills (time management, note-taking, test-taking, etc.) if necessary.

Resources and Networks of Support

Resources and support networks have a significant role in encouraging students to finish college. Students will engage with coaches to help them with questions they may have and link them to resources that will guide them through their academic journeys and provide answers to their questions.
