Exploring Nursing Residential Learning Community
Exploring Nursing Residential Learning Community
AT A GLANCE
The Exploring Nursing Residential Learning Community at UCCS is designed to support students who are interested in nursing as a career. It intends to foster a supportive environment for students to navigate the college experience together, build a support network, and make lasting friendships. Students in the Exploring Nursing Residential Learning Community live together on the same floor and take the same Gateway Program Seminar (GPS) course together.
During class sessions:
- enjoy discussions, activities, and projects specific to nursing students with opportunities to explore specific areas within the field nursing.
Outside of class:
- take advantage of opportunities to connect and make friends with peers interested in nursing or related fields.
- participate in meetups to enhance your overall college experience, including weekend trips, socials, and more!
Learning Community Coach:
Each of our learning communities has a Learning Community Coach (LCC) - a student who shares a similar interest (in this case, an interest in nursing), who has successfully navigated their first year at UCCS. LCC's attend the Gateway Program Seminar (GPS) class every week and meet with students individually and in groups outside of class. LCC's help connect students with instructors, resources, and opportunities to get the most out of their college experience.

Hi, my name is Julia Thompson, and I am a senior Nursing student at Beth-El. I am entering my third year as a coach with the UCCS Learning Communities. I've loved coaching all my students, but I am thrilled to work specifically with students interested in nursing this year! While I am excited to graduate this upcoming year and begin practicing, I am looking forward to going back to school. My long-term goal is to become a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in hospice and palliative care, as the older adult population has a special spot in my heart. When I am not studying or working, I enjoy hiking and exploring different spots in Colorado Springs. To relax, I love spending time with my cats at home and reading a good book. I look forward to getting to know and support you as you begin your academic journey at UCCS!
